Black Belt Leaders & Champions strive to be their best in every area of life. To become the best you can be in your Tang Soo Do, at the Dojang, at home, and in your personal and professional life, you must have discipline in your habits, actions & attitudes!
- Average people wish for great things in life, but often lack the discipline to set and get specific goals to actually achieve their dreams and desires – Champions set specific goals for their future and they have the discipline to develop and follow an action plan to achieve them.
- Average people tend to give their minimum, hope for success, but are often satisfied with and willing to accept mediocre results – Champions strive for Excellence and discipline themselves to give their maximum effort and energy to achieve greatness.
- Average people tend to procrastinate on taking action and are quick to make excuses for not getting started on their objectives – Champions never wait, they always create, they are disciplined to take the right actions that will lead them in the direction of their dreams.
- Average people are usually quick to give up and quit, they develop a habit of starting and stopping, but never finishing – Champions are disciplined to persevere and stick to it until they do it, they develop a Non-Quitting Spirit!
The message is simple, anybody can be average, its’ easy to live and accept a mediocre lifestyle. To live life as a Black Belt Leader & Champion, you must be eager to give your best and develop the “Habit of Discipline” in every area. It’s one of the fundamentals that leads to a better lifestyle for all.

Nothing earth shattering about that statement, but a great reminder of the 5 P’s:
- Proper Preparation & Planning Promotes Peak Performance.
- Proper Preparation & Planning Prevents Poor Performance.
Either way you look at it, there are 6 P’s and it’s a great reminder to all of us. The better you prepare for your upcoming week, the better you and your team will perform. The better you prepare your students for their upcoming progress check/gup or dan test, the better they will perform and the better you and they will look. Everyone wins when everyone is well prepared!
Lack of preparation always leads to poor performance and a poor mental state of mind. It may be a lack of confidence, lack of commitment or a lack of enthusiasm, all avoidable with greater preparation and planning.
Its been said that a goal is created three times:
- First, as a mental picture, an idea or thought in your mind.
- Second, when you write it down to add clarity and dimension.
- Third, when you take action toward its achievement.
Your journey toward success begins the moment you take action toward a worthwhile goal. The achievement of meaningful goals, like becoming an A-Rated Black Belt Leader & Champion, will always bring you greater levels of happiness and success in life. Most goals that are worthwhile require a laser beam focus and consistent action to see them through to success and achievement. It also requires persistence as obstacles are sure to surface. Once you’ve decided on exactly what goals you are working towards, and you’ve designed your action plan, it is time for action and lots of it. There is no substitute for taking action.
It has been said that Tang Soo Do is an Action Philosophy. I would agree with this as our Art demands action every step of the way. Black Belt Leaders & Champions are highly motivated individuals that are very action oriented people, in and out of the Dojang. They are driven by the excitement, energy and achievement of their goals. They live with energy, passion, and purpose. Black Belt Leaders & Champions are always working to improve and become better at everything. They understand that the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement. People with goals succeed more often than those who fail to plan, simply because they know what they want and where they are going in life.
A purpose driven life begins with knowing what you want and then setting goals for its achievement! Once you’ve created clarity with your goals and designed your action plan, it is time to take action today, not tomorrow. The greater actions you take the greater results you’ll create. Dont wait, dont procrastinate, take action and feel great!
“Your purpose explains what you are doing with your life. Your vision explains how you are living your purpose. Your goals enable you to realize your vision.” – Bob Proctor
