Anytime you achieve a specific fitness goal, big or small, you should reward yourself, recharge your batteries and renew your goal.
Reward – It’s very important to recognize and reward good performance, especially when it’s your own. Most people reward themselves when they achieve a big goal, such as a belt or hitting a certain body weight, etc… You may also considering rewarding yourself for completion of a great class or an excellent workout. Reward can vary from a special dinner to a trip to the book store or whatever reward you feel fits the achievement.
Recharge – Recharging your batteries. When you finish a great workout or achieve a big goal, it’s time to recharge your battery: combination of rest, re-hydration and replenishing your system with healthy nutrition. Proper rest and recharge is vital to your progress and should be planned into your training strategy. You work hard, train hard and push yourself to the next level and it’s important to allow yourself sufficient rest to make sure your batteries are fully recharged.
Renew – Renewing your goals insures that you’ll see consistent progress and that you’ll continually move forward in your health and fitness goals. Like any area of life that you wish to excel in, you must always have a goal in your training. Without a goal, you’ll lose your desire and reasons for taking your skills and conditioning to the next level. Always renew yourself and your goals.
Have you ever noticed how some people are always so eager? They’re eager to learn and grow, eager to train and improve their skills and conditioning, eager to help and serve others, eager to work productively and get ahead. Eagerness is an excellent quality to possess. In the Martial Arts, when you display an eager attitude, it opens doors and creates opportunities that you may not experience if you lacked eagerness. When you show an eager interest in others, they tend to show you the same. When you’re eager to train, your teachers, classmates and training partners will want to share their eager attitude with you as well. When you are eager to serve and help others, you’ll find more people eager to serve and help you as well. On the opposite side of the coin, is the person that dreads everything and anything. They always see the dark side of everything and constantly moan and groan. They talk about the things they dislike and share their woes with co-workers and friends. They’re what is known as a buzz kill. If you’re feeling good about something, they want you to see their dark and negative view. They seem to take pleasure in bringing the energy level down instead of up. They can kill a positive buzz in no time. Negative people brighten up the room when they leave it.
One way to stay eager, is to constantly ask yourself empowering questions. What else can I do to improve? How can I make this work for me? How can I be of service? What more can I do to help the team? Another is to hang around with other eager people. If you want to become the best you can be in your Martial Arts, get around other people with the same goal. If you want to excel in your career, talk with other people that are also eager to grow and make positive progress in life. Eagerness is a state of mind… You can choose to be eager or you can choose to miserable. If it’s truly your goal to get ahead in life, to excel in your career and financial life, or to have great relationships in your personal and professional life, choose to be eager and show your eagerness to the everyone every day. It’s more fun, more profitable and you’ll see positive progress.
One of the most effective ways to condition yourself for success and achievement is to constantly feed your mind with positive thoughts, ideas and goals. Train Your Brain…is all about conditioning yourself for a higher level of success and achievement. There are many ways to accomplish this. It can be done by reading, listening or watching inspirational and educational materials. You can accomplish it by modeling other successful peak performers. Yet another way is to network, attend seminars, and most importantly apply what you have learned. We call this closing the gap. You can also achieve this by observing your thought, contemplating or reflecting on your reality, and or meditating on your future success. Yet another method to train your brain is to focus on your intention, attention, and attitude.
Intention = setting the stage with no attachment to the outcome. Examples include adding value, seeking to improve, relieving suffering, and doing no harm.
Attention = what you focus on manifests. This is why you are best to focus on what you want rather on what you don’t want.
Attitude = how you perceive your life experience. It is how you read things. It is being mindful that life is full of duality. Good and bad, life and death, give and take, high and low.
It’s been proven that the more good you put in, the more good will come out. If you constantly allow garbage to go into your mind and body, you better be ready to deal with the garbage that is going to come out.
Positive input, combined with positive self-talk and affirmations, will keep you motivated and inspire you to take massive action toward your goals. For most people, one of the biggest enemies to success is their own limited thinking and the feeling that they’re not good enough. Some people even put themselves down and fill their mind with fears, uncertainties and doubt. Better known as F.U.D.’s. This can be very damaging to your desire and motivation to succeed. The more you fill your mind with positive thoughts, ideas and goals, the greater your self-esteem and confidence will become.
Every day you train your brain is a good day indeed so train your brain today!

Studies on human potential show that most people are performing at a fraction of their true potential. If this is accurate, it means that we all have a tremendous opportunity to improve ourselves and enjoy even greater levels of happiness, success and achievement. If you set a goal to improve your thinking for example, there are many ways you can make it happen. First, you could decide in advance (DIA) to use structured thinking to get better bang for your buck. Doing this, would allow you to:
- Eliminate or use procrastination
- Set the right intention
- Discover your true life purpose
- Create a desired outcome effortlessly
- Find true happiness
- Help heal yourself and others from the heart and mind
- Discover yourself, know yourself, and master yourself
Using structured thinking you could also improve your programming and overall effectiveness. Through experience of teaching and training thousands of students over the past 30+ years, I know this is a very attainable goal. The key is to learn to maximize the time and effort you are currently dedicating to each of these areas. Once you’ve committed mentally, the rest comes down to syntax, repetition, and permanence. The key however is to take immediate action. Remember, it is not more information but rather more application! It is through “doing” that you increase your return on investment (ROI). Learning to take time to reflect and being honest about the gap between your current “knowing” and “doing” will have a very powerful and positive impact on everything you do for the rest of your life.
What are some ways you could better maximize your time today? What can you do today that you have never done before?
Let’s say you are starting your day. Setting the right intention and taking proper aim like a Zen archer would be a good starting point. Deciding in advance what you want and desire is part of this. Being mindful of your every action would be step number two. Taking time to reflect on your gap and deciding in advance to be happy while taking the journey would be step number three. Looking for opportunities to serve others is certainly on the list.
